Crisp air, golden leaves, and orchard rows bursting with apples, fall is the season the Apple Pie Trail was made for. From cider tastings to scenic hikes, cozy cafés to farm-fresh markets, this self-guided trail through Blue Mountain and Meaford is your ultimate way to experience Ontario’s Apple Country this autumn.
U-Pick Apples & Farm Markets
Nothing says fall like stepping into the orchard with a bag in hand. Oaklane Orchards (U-Pick opens Sept 20, 2025) and Farmer’s Pantry (U-Pick opens Sept 13, 2025) both offer bags of fresh-picked apples throughout the season, with limited U-Pick available once the dates arrive.
You’ll also find baskets of apples at T&K Ferri Orchards and Goldsmith’s Market, along with fresh-pressed cider, pies, jams, and other seasonal products. Since each variety ripens at a different time from now until mid-October, availability changes week by week making every visit a little different (and delicious).
Cider Season
Fall and cider are the perfect pairing. Sip crisp, seasonal pours at Spy Cider House & Distillery, Grey & Gold Cider, Thornbury Craft Co., Georgian Hills Vineyards & Ardiel Cider, and Windswept Cider each offering its own twist on traditional and modern craft cider.
From mulled cider that warms you up on a cool day to tasting flights enjoyed on patios, in orchards, or right inside the cider house, these stops are a must-do on the Trail this season.
Sweet Fall Treats
Pie, butter tarts, apple crumble…fall is dessert season, and the Trail does not disappoint. Stop at Blackbird Pie Company in Heathcote for their famous apple crumble pie, or swing by Thornbury Bakery Café for fresh bread, sticky knots, and giant cinnamon buns (plus their house-made gluten-free bread).
At Goldsmith’s Orchard Market, try the Thornberry Pie, a delicious mix of apples, blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, and raspberries with a crumble crust. Or head to The Cheese Gallery in downtown Thornbury for an apple éclair pastry delight paired with a perfectly crafted latte.
Because dessert is always worth the stop.
Scenic Adventures
The changing colours of the Beaver Valley are one of the most breathtaking sights of the season, and the Trail offers plenty of ways to soak it all in. Rent an e-bike from Georgian Trail E-Bike Rentals, paddle down the Beaver River with Free Spirit Tours, or lace up your boots for a hike through Blue Mountain’s scenic trails.
Looking for a little more adventure? Blue Mountain Resort is packed with family-friendly outdoor activities. Ride the open-air gondola for panoramic views, take on the Ridge Runner Mountain Coaster, or test your limits on the high ropes and climbing courses.
Or, for something a little different, head to Alpine Ridge Alpacas for a guided alpaca walk, the perfect mix of fresh air, adorable company, and countryside views.
Whether you’re chasing thrills or quiet moments in nature, fall adventures on The Trail will leave you in awe.
Cozy Stops Along the Way
Fall is also about slowing down and enjoying the simple comforts. Warm up with a specialty coffee from Enduro Espresso Bar, or grab one of the house-made sandwiches at The Market on Marsh. Take a stroll through reDiscovered on Marsh to uncover antique and vintage treasures, then end your day with a hearty meal at Bruce Wine Bar or Station 87. For the ultimate relaxation, unwind at Scandinave Spa where hot baths and forest views make the perfect fall escape.
It’s all about balancing crisp outdoor adventures with cozy moments inside.
With orchards at their peak, cideries in full swing, and fall colours painting the valley, this is the season to experience the Apple Pie Trail at its very best.
